WILD ACCESS has since 2021 created site-specific performances for public spaces. Locations include streets, gardens, running tracks, parks, urban greenways, galleries and memorial sites such as Berlin’s former bear pit. The interdisciplinary performance group re-interprets and re-imagines their surroundings and touches on environmental topics through inventive and accessible performances.
With each new site, WILD ACCESS adapts their works to highlight the architectural features and natural elements of the performance space. Their works are interdisciplinary collaborations involving the artistic mediums of sound, light, video and live performance. These elements are each time re-composed by means of mobile sound- and light set-ups. The use of indoor and outdoor spaces exposes both the performers and the audience to the natural elements.
During the performance, the audience follows a route from one scene to the next. They experience the performers up close and from afar. In turn, the performers are influenced by their audience as they play with proximity and distance, sensation and image. The mobile journey of the body amplifies the sensorial experience of place, while the tentative and unpredictable relationship between audience and performer plays a large part in the performance. A dynamic experience unfolds that stays true to the live moment while drawing us in to our environment and our local surroundings.
WILD ACCESS is led by artistic director and choreographer Beatrix Joyce, with dance by Michela Filzi, Imola Nagy, Savina Casarin, Susanna Ylikoski and Hannah Schillinger, light and costume design by Lena Gätjens and sound design by Jethro Cooke. Invited musicians include Dan Kinzelman, Jun Suzuki, Jake Long and Sebastian Faust. Invited videographers include Shivani Hassard and Vincent Jondeau.
